This new blog series will include interviews with author friends and sharing their wonderful books with my readers. I am so glad to feature my author friend, Kiara Colón, as my first blog feature. A full time working mom, and contemporary romance writer, she loves to read, draw, and go on walking trails with her two kids. Kiara has a gift of being able to describe a setting in a way that the narration makes you feel like you are immersed in the scene.
When asked what she wants readers to know most about her books, she tells us they are filled with sweet romance that melts your heart with just a hint of steam. Her books are slow burn, but fast paced, enjoyable to readers who like a good build up of heartfelt romance. When reading her books I am always amazed at how well she works the drama elements into the sub-plot and makes you root for the main characters through their journey to find love.

Desperation and hope have sent them fleeing to a new planet, where they hoped to save themselves and start a new life, but only the most influential people were allowed to board. With no family, no dreams and no future, Chloe Walsh is forced to sneak in the last spacecraft that would leave Earth for the following ten years. But after being caught, she is exiled in the arid desert of the new planet. Elazar Zharor is the leader of planet Numia, where the Sirian alien race lived peacefully in their oasis in the middle of the desert. But the arrival of the humans threatened their peace, especially when a woman, who he seemed to recognize from his past, is found almost dead near their home.
Author Q&A Interview
Let’s dive in to finding out more about this amazing romance author.
Kiara, how long have you been writing and what writing achievements would you like to share?
I’ve been writing for four years now. My main goal is to one day write for Harlequin or Hallmark. I’m a huge fan of the former, and reading stories from their authors makes me smile. Currently, I have written thirty-two books, including five anthologies. My favorite so far has been The Numia Series.
What inspires your writing most?
The day to day things of life. I am a very observant person and anything I can catch on, it’s surely to click in my mind. Also reading romance novels inspire me to create my own and put my sweet touch into them. I’m a hopeless romantic, so that’s a huge deal for me when it comes to my writing.
The hardest thing for a lot of authors is reading reviews from readers. How do you process with negative book reviews?
It depends. I have brushed off negative comments a lot. As an author, you need to learn how to deal with them. Once a comment really got to me, and it had me on a writing slump for a bit. I realized it wasn’t worth my energy and I kept on doing what I love most. I have to remember I’m not doing this just for the readers, but I’m writing for myself, and I love it. If I’m happy with my story, it’s all that matters. I love sharing my passion, but in the end, it’s all for me.
What advice would you give to a writer working on their first book?
Well, that’s a hard one. Just like anyone, I was there once. My advice would be to never let others put you down just because your book isn’t perfect. Over the time, we all get better, and when you notice the difference from your first book, to your latest, you’ll feel proud of yourself. A good support is also helpful. Make sure you find the right people to help you and encourage you on your journey.
Apart from my mom and my kids… I found a support system. You (Loretta Kendall) and Michelle Atherton are not only my good friends-two of the only three I have-but always bringing me back up when I’m down and feel like I should quit. I’m grateful for the feedback and suggestions of my friends, and they’re biggest support.
One last question. What character in one of your books is your favorite and why?
Oh boy. So many to choose from. I will have to say the two ultimate favorites for me have been Nicholas and Maire from The Secrets of the Diamond. Not only that she’s a strong female lead, but them together make the perfect couple and team to overcome any obstacles and enemies. Their chemistry is just amazing.
